Even in Tuscany we have our Santiago… or rather, the Minor Santiago: Pistoia.

This is because the Tuscan city is the only one, outside Santiago de Compostela, to keep a relic of San Giacomo il Maggiore (San Jacopo) since 1145. For this reason, Pistoia has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries.

Also in Tuscany there is a small “Camino de Santiago”, between Florence and Pistoia, passing through Prato, along the Via Cassia - Clodia, an ancient road for more than two thousand years.

A beautiful footpath that connects villages, cathedrals, parish churches, churches, tabernacles…. witnesses of an ancient and continuous passage. But not only… Medici villas, ancient castles…. a real concentrate of art, history and nature, all to be discovered.

2021, in Pistoia, is a special year: the Jacobean Holy Year. We too want to travel, on two Sundays in December, the route from Florence to the Minor Santiago and, like new pilgrims, to collect the "Jacopea" in the Baptistery, that is the official document written in Latin, which certifies our journey.

But we won't stop there! Our journey will continue on another four Sundays in the early months of 2022, through Lucca, passing through Pescia, always along the Via Cassia - Clodia, and then heading to Pisa and then to Livorno on the route of the Roman Via Aemilia Scauri.

Our journey will end at the Church of San Jacopo in Acquaviva, on the Livorno seafront, from whose pier, in the Middle Ages, pilgrims left for Barcelona, to then head to Santiago de Compostela, following the Catalan Jacobean routes. And who knows that history does not repeat itself ... ..

Just tell it is time to live it! We will meet in Florence, at the column of San Zanobi, to begin our journey.

Walk with us!

The exact meeting place, which will coincide with the start of the activity, will be outdoors and will be communicated exclusively to the participants.
