Pianosa, an island rich in history, with evidence dating back to prehistoric times, but also with a wild nature that has now reconquered the spaces once used by the agricultural activity of the prison colony.

An excursion to discover all its historical-naturalistic peculiarities, with particular attention to places and anecdotes of prison life.

Of course there will be the possibility, for those who want, to take a nice bath in its clear and crystalline waters, surrounded by the remains of Roman times, a reminder of past eras.

Difficulty:

for hikers E (ring route; length approximately 9.00 km; positive / negative difference in height approximately 100 meters; divided between the morning and afternoon routes); there are no significant difficulties, it winds on dirt roads, but the heat and the sun should not be underestimated!

meeting and boarding at the Port of Piombino (Maritime station on the sea side, normally pier n.8): meeting point (punctuality is recommended, the ship does not wait!).

Program of the day:

– 08:00 am meeting and boarding for Pianosa

– 08:30 departure of the ferry to Pianosa

- around 11:00, arrival in Pianosa and start of our excursion to discover the southern part of the island, its historical-naturalistic peculiarities, with particular attention to the period in which Pianosa was a penal colony.

- around 13:00, packed lunch and swim at the magnificent beach of Cala San Giovanni.

- about 2.30 pm, we will go to discover the port, the town and the many curiosities that hide the walls of the houses now abandoned and at risk of collapse of this small jewel of the Tuscan Archipelago ... of course for those who want to continue enjoying the sea no problem.

- 17:00 departure from Pianosa by motor ship.

- around 7:30 pm, arrival in Piombino.

Adults: €72.00 (including guide, ship and park access ticket)

After the payment:
Send a scan or photo of the accounting receipt to info@toscanahiking.it, together with the following information:
Name and surname of each participant, no. mobile phone and e-mail address (necessary for any urgent communications), date of birth for minors 12.

NOT there is a refund of the fee in case of cancellation, for any reason.

In case of bad weather that prevents the departure of the motorboat or failure to reach the minimum number of participants (10 adults), the entire fee will be refunded or the possibility of using the fee for the same excursion which will be postponed to the first available date. .

THE PRICE INCLUDES:
Organization and coordination of activities; assistance with an environmental hiking guide pursuant to LR 86/2016 and subsequent amendments; maritime transport; Park access ticket (if provided). The Guides are in possession of the civil liability insurance required by law. Participants in the excursions are NOT covered by personal accident insurance.

THE FEE DOES NOT INCLUDE:
Transfer costs for the port of Piombino, meals and anything else not explicitly mentioned in the program.

What you need for excursions:

Compulsory equipment:

- hiking shoes / comfortable shoes with sculpted soles (the paths are easy but we still recommend trekking shoes or comfortable shoes with well sculpted soles) (NO sandals)
- backpack
- at least 2 liters of water (per person!)
- packed lunch and at least 2 liters of water per person (the period is particularly hot: don't underestimate it !!!)
- layered clothing (long technical trousers, technical t-shirt, windbreaker)
- clothing to cover up in case of rain
- hat or bandana for sun protection (strongly recommended for sun protection!)
- sunscreen (strongly recommended!)
- bathing suit and towel (please note that access to San Giovanni beach is free but there is no lifeguard service)
– tick repellent (unfortunately in Pianosa there is the problem of tick infestation, but you just need to take the right precautions: light, long trousers and a good repellent – to keep them away).

Recommended equipment:
Trekking poles and camera.

We ask all participants to limit the use of disposable material and to bring a glass. In fact we generally offer coffee or other drinks but we have decided not to bring more shot glasses / glasses and spoons.
We do not want to teach anyone anything, but we feel a duty, for those like us who love nature, to try to behave in a more respectful way.

Please note that there is a restaurant bar on the island, where it will be possible to stop and stock up on water and food ONLY in the afternoon, if open.
