We start from the Sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso (S. Brigida – Pontassieve) and immediately we are affected by the atmosphere in which we find ourselves walking on a small path between the sandstone rocks, chestnut trees and the sun that gives us its warmth in this cool December morning . Even those who were a little tired after the way up, have easily forgotten it at the sight of the first “burraia”, little ancient jewel of the mountain.
Our walkers are increasingly interested in the history of these magic woods; from the ruins of Monterotondo’s castle, the singular tree called Berretta del Prete, to the uniqueness of the Cisto laurino: here is the only station in Italy where it grows spontaneously. On the way back we stop to enjoy the last warm sun of the day on a huge slab of sandstone where we can admire the majesty of the sanctuary.
Back to starting point, we enjoy the only sound of the wind between the trees, from bright green grass of the Sanctuary and we say goodbye with the feeling of having experienced something magical.
